TOSHODAIJI - JAPAN


Toshodaiji is a Buddhist temple of the Ritsu sect in the city of Nara, in Nara Prefecture, Japan. It was founded during the Nara period in the year 759 A.D. by the priest Ganjin , a Chinese priest who was invited to Japan by the emperor in order to train priests and improve Japanese Buddhism. Toshodaiji is one of the places in Nara that UNESCO has designated as a World Heritage Site. Toshodaiji's main hall (kondo) is currently being renovated until 2009.
