FORD ROUGE CENTER - UNITED STATES

From 1917 to 1925, Henry Ford built a revolutionary manufacturing complex on the banks of the Rouge River in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1999, Bill Ford Jr., then Ford Motor Company Chairman of the Board, proposed to overhaul the entire Rouge complex. Construction began on the new project in November of 2000. Ford Motor Company's property is 600 acres, but roads, boundaries and infrastructure are shared with Rouge Steel, for a total of 1100 acres. When the improvements are completed, over 100 acres of new green space will be created at the Rouge and this is the world's largest vegetated roof (10.4 acres).
