SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM - UNITED STATES


The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, USA, comprises 16 museums and the National Zoological Park. It was established in 1846 with funds bequeathed to the United States by James Smithson, an English scientist. Known as the "nation's attic" and the "National Museum of American History," the oldest of the 14 Smithsonian museums in Washington houses the crypt of founder James Smithson, 2 orientation theaters, scale models of Washington's monumental core, interactive touch-screen program in 6 languages, 2 electronic wall maps, plus multilingual information and assistance. The Institution, also a center for research, is dedicated to public education, national service and scholarship in the arts, sciences and history.
