FOGUANSHAN MONASTERY - TAIWAN
The only worthy place of Buddhist worship in Taiwan is Foguangshan Monastery near Gaoxiong,
with a bronze Great Buddha ( erected in 1967) surrounded by 480 life-size golden images above the entrance. The Great Buddha is a statue of Amitabha Buddha, which stands 120 feet (36 meters).
It is one of the tallest standing Buddha statues in East Asia .
Foguangshan ( or Light of Buddha Mountain ) monastery is a large, well-kept collection of shrines, universities,
dining halls, dormitories, and meditation halls, filled with peaceful gardens and overlooked by a tall golden statue of the Buddha.
